It is officially the Holiday season in our house. We’ve got our Thanksgiving decorations up and I’m ready for a month of amazing comfort food. Followed by another month of amazing comfort food haha.
If you haven’t seen pineapple brown sugar ham recipes taking over Pinterest yet then I’m sure you will soon.
They are everywhere and they are all basically the same. Ham, brown sugar, and pineapple is all there is to it.
My father in-law has been making it for years at every Holiday get together they host. It’s amazing, but has a crazy amount of brown sugar in it. Three cups of sugar in anything is just wild to me.
I decided this year I wanted to make it myself but I wanted to use coconut sugar instead of refined sugar. I also knew I wanted to use WAY less sugar.
The pineapple is already very sweet and the ham is typically a little sweet itself. So I figured I could get away with using “only” one cup of sugar.
I was shocked that it tasted almost the exact same as the recipe with over twice the amount of sugar.
This is my absolute FAVORITE way to eat ham. The ham with the coconut sugar and sweet pineapple chunks is an amazing combination!
I usually serve it with all the fixings. stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, the works!

This gluten free & dairy free slow cooker Pineapple Coconut Sugar Glazed Ham is AMAZING! The pineapple chunks and coconut sugar give the ham the most delicious sweet flavor. It’s the perfect main dish for the Holidays!
Ingredients
- 4 lbs gluten free boneless ham, pre-cooked and spiral cut*
- 1 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1 14 oz can pineapple chunks or crushed pineapple
Instructions
- Pour 1/2 cup of coconut sugar on the bottom of a 6 quart or larger slow cooker.
- Place ham on top of the coconut sugar and pour pineapple chunks and juice evenly over the ham.
- Pour remaining coconut sugar on top of the ham, evenly coating.
- Cook on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 6-7 hours.
- When serving, optionally drizzle ham with the excess coconut sugar glaze in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Notes
I typically buy gluten free uncured boneless ham from my local health food store and it is not spiral cut. Just thinly slice the ham before placing in the slow cooker if yours is not already cut.

Can I ask- is it supposed to the white coconut sugar or the brown coconut sugar?
Hi Heather, you should be able to use either the “blonde” or “brown” coconut sugar without much change. I personally think they taste slightly different, but I think both are tasty. You can also use regular brown cane sugar if you prefer.
