PEPPER STEAK RECIPE INGREDIENTS:

  • Beef sirloin
  • Red bell pepper
  • Green bell pepper
  • Onion
  • Garlic 
  • Coconut aminos: Other gluten free soy sauce substitutes may be used as well.
  • Coconut sugar: Brown sugar can be used instead.
  • Beef broth
  • Ground ginger 
  • Cornstarch and water: This is optional and used to thicken the liquid once the pepper steak is done cooking.
  • Rice for serving

HOW TO MAKE CHINESE PEPPER STEAK AND RICE:

How To Make Pepper Steak in the Slow Cooker:

  1. Mix together ingredients in the slow cooker: Add all ingredients except the water and cornstarch to the slow cooker.  Mix to evenly coat the meat.
  2. Cook: on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  3. Mix in thickener: Optionally mix together the cornstarch and water in a small bowl when the slow cooker has about 20 minute left on the timer.  Add the cornstarch mixture to the slow cooker and stir to combine. Cook for the remaining 20 minutes.
  4. Serve: Serve pepper steak over rice.

How To Make Pepper Steak in the Instant Pot:

  1. Mix together ingredients in the Instant Pot: Add all ingredients except the water and cornstarch to the Instant Pot.  Mix to evenly coat the meat.
  2. Select cooking settings: Close the lid on the Instant Pot and make sure you are NOT venting. Select the “Manual” setting and set the pressure to “High Pressure”.  Set the time to 20 minutes.
  3. Release pressure: Once the timer goes off, allow for a natural release or do a quick release using a towel to make sure you don’t get burned.
  4. Mix in thickener: Optionally mix together the cornstarch and water in a small bowl.  Once pressure is released, add the cornstarch mixture to the Instant Pot and stir to combine. Close the lid and allow for 10-15 minutes on the “Keep Warm” setting for the liquid to thicken up.
  5. Serve: Serve pepper steak over rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs beef sirloin, cut into thin strips
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into strips
  • 1 large onion, cut into thick strips
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced 
  • 1/3 cup coconut aminos (or other gluten free soy sauce substitute) 
  • 2 tsp coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger 
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water (optional)
  • Rice for serving
