GLUTEN FREE VEGAN CREAM CHEESE FROSTING RECIPE INGREDIENTS:
- 8oz vegan cream cheese
- 1/4 cup vegan butter, softened (I use “Earth Balance Soy Free Vegan Buttery Sticks”)
- 3-4 cups vegan powdered sugar (depending on how thick and sweet you want the frosting)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 tsp salt
HOW TO MAKE THIS RECIPE FOR VEGAN CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:
- Beat softened vegan butter and cream cheese in a stand mixer until well blended (or bowl if using a hand-held mixer).
- Slowly add in powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt. As you add in the powdered sugar, you will need to stop occasionally to scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl with a rubber spatula. Beat until creamy.
- You can use the frosting right away or place it in the refrigerator to thicken up more.
- Store in the refrigerator.
- Note: For a thicker frosting that will keep its shape more when piping onto cupcakes, add more powdered sugar.

This recipe calls for 1/4 vegan butter. Can you be more specific please?
Sorry about that! It is 1/4 cup of vegan butter. I updated the recipe accordingly. Thank you for letting me know I missed that!
What brand of vegan cream cheese would you recommend? I am new to the dairy free world and would love your opinion😁
Hi Kim, my favorite brand of vegan cream cheese is Kite Hill brand. It can get rather expensive though so for recipes like this where the cream cheese will be sweetened quite a bit, I have found that I can use the Daiya brand which is much cheaper.
How much butter?
“1/4 vegan butter, softened (I use “Earth Balance Soy Free Vegan Buttery Sticks”)”
1/4 stick? 1/4 cup?
Thanks.
Hi Mary, sorry about that typo! It is 1/4 cup of vegan butter. I updated the recipe to reflect that as well. ☺
